A Solid Foundation

Positive reinforcement for positive outcomes.

At Brighter Strides ABA we don’t believe in penalty to inspire performance—we use only positive reinforcement techniques to achieve meaningful goals. We encourage desired behaviors by rewarding children for their achievements.

By celebrating even small successes, we not only boost a child’s confidence but also reinforce their willingness to engage in the process and try new things. This positivity focus fosters resilience and skill building that ultimately leads to greater independence and success with daily living activities, communication, and socialization.

Our Story

A desire to help one family continues to transform the lives of many.

Brighter Strides ABA began with a desire to help one household struggling with their three children on the autism spectrum. In observing the family’s dynamics and patterns of behavior, the founders were both troubled and encouraged—they witnessed the extent of the family’s daily hardships, but also recognized the power of each child’s unique strengths, talents, and interests in meeting these challenges.

Inspired by these insights and a commitment to providing better outcomes for the autism community, they set out to model compassionate, results-oriented care—an inclusive approach to ABA therapy that mobilizes each child’s potential to address their individual needs and empowers the entire family with supportive guidance.

Starting in 2020 with a few families in Maryland, Brighter Strides ABA began providing highly individualized, ABA therapy tailored to each child’s personality, strengths, and goals. Our comprehensive approach to compassionate care quickly gained momentum within the autism community and fueled our growth.

Brighter Strides ABA now offers services in state-of-the-art clinics, in homes, and at schools across the country, empowering families nationwide with personalized ABA therapy programs that foster the growth and independence of neurodivergent children and youth. Today, our story continues in the successful outcomes of each individual, family, and community we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are here to help.

We hope to answer your most common questions here, but encourage you to please reach out for more information.

How do I access ABA services?
When you contact our office, a member of our administrative team will schedule an intake session to determine your child’s needs and confirm eligibility for services with your insurance provider. With insurance approval, we will schedule your child’s initial assessment with one of our qualified BCBAs who will design a customized ABA treatment plan.

Private health insurance providers are commonly mandated to include coverage for ABA services, but benefits do vary by state and depend on the specifics of your insurance plan. Providers may also require an official ASD diagnosis to approve coverage.

Brighter Strides ABA is in-network with most major insurance providers. Please contact us and a member of our administrative team will check your insurance eligibility and navigate the process for you.

Parents and guardians play a critical role in their child’s ABA therapy success. Research shows that parental involvement in therapy significantly improves outcomes. By sharing valuable insights about your child’s preferences, strengths, and challenges during our assessment and then actively participating in their therapy, you are an important factor in their progress.

Your support and encouragement during therapy sessions can help your child stay motivated and engaged in the work. With parental reinforcement of therapy techniques and strategies in daily life at home, children can better generalize their skills across different environments. Active parent participation is vital for consistent reinforcement of learned skills outside of therapy sessions.

Your BCBA will support you with parental coaching and communicate directly throughout your child’s program, but it is important to understand that parents and caregivers have an essential role in the process.

Yes, ABA therapy is effective for people of all ages, from early childhood through adulthood. For children, ABA focuses on developing foundational skills. For adolescents and adults, it helps with goals like independence, public transportation, or social interactions. While formal ABA therapy is less common for adults, ABA principles can still be used in everyday life.
ABA therapy teaches skills to replace problem behaviors, reduce interfering behaviors, and increase positive behaviors. We work on improving language and communication skills, cognitive skills, social interaction and participation in activities, daily living skills such as self-care and routine hygiene, and play and leisure skills. ABA supports a child’s ability to generalize learned skills so they may transfer behavior from one situation or response to another.
Though we don’t teach academics specifically, our work focuses on reducing the behavioral barriers that interfere with your child’s ability to accomplish and comply with tasks. By removing these obstacles to learning, ABA therapy motivates performance and improves cognition which can help your child be more available for academics.

Yes, depending on where you are located, we offer school-based ABA therapy that seamlessly integrates behavioral support and skill building with academic learning in the classroom. Learn more about our School-Based ABA Therapy

Though each child’s program is unique, ABA therapy programs typically require 20-40 hours per week for up to 3 years. Every program is specifically designed for its recipient and overseen by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) with strategies implemented during therapy sessions by a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
The foundation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the idea that people can change their behavior with positive reinforcement or reward. This principle is applied in different ways to help people with autism learn new skills and lessen difficult behaviors. Some of the most commonly used ABA techniques for autism include:
  • Positive Reinforcement which involves providing a reward following a desired behavior, increasing the likelihood that the behavior will be repeated
  • Discrete Trial Learning (DTL), a structured ABA technique that breaks down skills into small, “discrete” components
  • Functional Communication Training (FCT) which teaches children to replace challenging behaviors with more appropriate communication methods
  • Modeling which involves demonstrating a behavior for the child to imitate
  • Verbal Behavior (VB) which focuses on teaching communication skills by breaking down language into functional components
